ReFashion - a Youth Week WA Event

Earlier this year we were excited to announce that The Studio School won a Youth Week WA 2023 grant from the Department of Communities.

The grant application was co-written by current Year 12 student Avalean, who also brought to life ReFashion, an event held on April 11th in partnership with Good Sammy Fremantle. This event focused on fashion and sustainability with the aim of empowering youth and showcasing youth talent and creativity.

Students worked behind the scenes for weeks leading up to the event curating clothes from the racks at Good Sammy to create specialised ‘Youth Curated Racks’. Students were also involved in technical support leading up to the event and on the day as well.

The event also involved four musical performances by members of the TSS and Fremantle communities. Students from TSS and John Curtin College of the Arts as well as members of the Old Saints community performed live for up to two and a half hours adding to their experiences as live musicians and gaining experience playing for an audience.

The event was a huge success and welcomed over 200 customers into the new Good Sammy Fremantle building and clearing the six Youth Curated racks of clothing.

This event was supported by the Department of Communities.
